2017 Workshops and Events

Yoga with Patty Clark: (Location: Grandview School House on Saturday 8:00 AM -9:30 AM and on Sunday 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM)
Start your day with Yoga instructor Patty Clark – All levels including beginners are welcome.

Bon Fire: (Location: Drum Kiva at Dusk)
Friday and Saturday evening at DUSK, a Bon Fire will be lit in the DRUM KIVA. Lawn chairs and acoustic instruments welcomed .

Drumming: (Location: Drum Kiva after last performance on Main Stage)
Friday and Saturday night after the main stage has presented its last performance, there will be a fire and hand drumming at the DRUM KIVA. Bring your hand drums or any percussion instruments and join the fun as Afro Zuma will get us going. Open to everyone – Be careful walking-its dark down there.

Guitars for Kids: (Location: Main Stage Saturday at 5:00 PM for announcing winners)
Nor-East’r Festival will select 12 or more young people to receive a guitar-free. YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO BE AWARDED…Fill out an application at the VW Bus near main stage Saturday before 4:30 PM. Applicants are selected and not every child will receive a guitar

May Erlewine Songwriting Techniques: (Location: Workshop Tent at 4:00 PM)
Songs that capture the heart, the spirit and explore the human experience are all featured in songs from songwriter May Erlewine. May will share the inner workings of song and how she finds her incredible inspirations. Everyone invited..all levels. No instruments please.

Beginning Banjo Workshop with ANNIE CAPPS: (Location: Workshop Tent at 3:00 PM)
Join Annie Capps and friends and bring your banjo and learn the basics, rolls, chords and playing roots music on the banjo. Annie has long been known as an innovator in Midwestern roots music. Bring your banjos-best for beginners.

Bluegrass Jam with The Blue Water Ramblers: (Location: Workshop Tent on Sunday at 11:00 AM)
All levels of players invited to bring your instrument and do some pickin with the Blue Water Ramblers-These guys know how to have fun and know darn near every song ever created. Join the band and lets do some pickin.

The Low End – Upright Bass Workshop : (Location: Music Workshop Tent – Sunday 1:00 PM)
Bass players from Nina & The Buffalo Riders and other festival bands will show you the slap happy bass playing, keeping the beat and the song on time with the bottom end-Bring your bass if you have one!

Fiddle Camp-A Fiddle Workshop: (Location: Workshop Tent-Saturday at 1:00 PM)
Join Jon Potrykus from the band Jen Cass & the Lucky Nows for a fiddle focused workshop-all levels are invited to bring their instruments and learn how make fiddle a part of your roots band sound.

Instrument Petting Zoo: (Location: The Barn – Saturday 4:00 PM)
Red Herring hosts this popular workshop for young people. Here’s your chance to try an electric guitar, or play a drum set, bass guitar or keys. You are the rock star-take the stage and be the band. Young people LOVE this workshop. Let’s make some noise!!!!

Guitars for Kids Lesson with Judy Insley: (Location: The Barn – Saturday at 6:00 PM)
The kids that are awarded a guitar from Nor-East’r get their first lesson-Parents invited and Guitar Players from many groups will be assisting.

ACOUSTIC Classic Rock Jam with Nina & The Buffalo Riders and Red Herring: (Location: Grandview School House Saturday at 2:00 PM)
Two of your favorite classic rockers bands – without the amps!!! Completely unrehearsed – this is a performance from two talented acts…all unplugged. No instruments please.

Hand Drumming with Afro Zuma: (Location: Music Workshop Tent on Saturday at 2:00 PM)
World music and drum circles, folk music and jam bands know how important the hand drumming musician can be. The most primitive instrument on earth and yet so important. Bring your drum or ANY percussion instruments.

Guitar Workshop – ALL LEVELS with B-Side Growlers: (Location: Music Workshop Tent on Sunday at Noon)
Rootsy, bluesy, folksy, pickin and grinnin – Something for everyone in this guitar workshop from some real pros . All levels invited, bring your guitar.

Bluegrass Jam with Blue Water Ramblers: (Location: Music Workshop Tent Sunday 11:00 AM)
Bluegrass picking-traditional and a little bit more. Bring your instruments-all levels to play along with the Nor-Eastr favorites The Blue Water Ramblers

Alyson’s Random Act – Dance Troupe: (Location: The Barn – Saturday 7:00 PM)
Songs that Make You Laugh – Open Jam: Join Al Gross for an open jam and bring your songs that are designed for the comedian-funny story songs, wacky songs about wacky stuff-keep it clean and laugh it up. All levels invited – bring your instruments and your funniest songs. (Location: Workshop Tent on Sunday 10:00 AM)

CHURCH – Non-Denomination Sunday Worship Service: (Location: The Barn on Sunday at 1:00 PM)

GOBS OF KNOBS: (Location: The Barn on Saturday at 1:00 PM)
A pro sound workshop hosted by Larry Ahlborn – All levels invited to learn the ins and outs of setting up PA/Sound Equipment, EQ, mics, cables and speaker placement. A must for musicians.

Mellow Folk Jam with The Blue Water Ramblers: (Location: Workshop Tent on Saturday at 11:00 AM)
Bring your instruments and strum along/sing along with your favorite troubadours of folk music The Blue Water Ramblers. Something mellow to start your day. Join Bear and Banjo Jim and the guys-all instruments and all levels invited.

Annie Capps & Jen Cass Songwriting Workshop: (Location: Workshop Tent on Saturday at Noon)
Two incredible songwriters both widely known in the songwriting world will help the group find their song-using their own techniques and knowledge and of course borrowing from others as well. A VERY popular workshop – Instruments are optional. Workshop is for ALL levels.

Libby/Katelynn/Olivia/Syd In the Round: (Location: School House on Saturday at 11:00 AM)
Very exciting young ladies all performing at Nor-East’r including Libby Decamp, Katelynn Corll, Olivia Mainville and Syd Burnham will perform 100% unplugged – songs of their choice….expect originals or covers scaled back into a raw and acoustic presentation. No instruments please-this is a performance.

 Coffee and Songs from the RV: (Location: Escaping Pavement RV (LOOK FOR THEIR SIGN) Times will be posted on the outside of the RV)
Ever see the video series called “Jam in the Van” – well this is sort of like this…..our pals Escaping Pavement have set up a mini studio in their RV and are inviting various performers into their vintage RV to have a chat over a cup of coffee followed by an intimate acoustic performance and recording songs onto video. The videos will be shared on Youtube. Seating is limited to 5 guests per performance, although you can gather around the RV and windows and peak in on the action, this promises to be a unique and very intimate experience.

Acoustic Jams in Camps: ALL are invited-Bring your instruments! Some of the most notorious jamming happens at the camps. They are not scheduled and can happen at almost any time of the day or night. Please be sure to safely wander around-If you are wanting to play, pop in and ask, bring your instruments….If you can find the Blue Water Ramblers or B-Side Growlers camps, you’ll most likely be invited in to do some pickin with the bands. If you’ve never done this before, you need to give it a try. Don’t be bashful, get in there and do some strumming of your own. Acoustic instruments only please!
